Effect of Magnetic Field on Welding...
EFFECT ON WELD GEOMETRY
A magnetic field can deflect the arc perpendicular to the welding direction as AC current changes its direction because the direction of electrons changes and this changes the direction of the force on them. This way arc is deflected from the line of a weld. This results in an increase in bead width also.
Effect of the Magnetic field on the weld joint.
The welding process is done under the influence of the magnetic field; affect the quality as well as the geometry of the welded joint. The magnetic field applied in the transverse direction of the weld direction increases the bead width of the joint. The tensile strength of the weld joint is increased. By increasing the magnetic field we can increase the weld width but the depth of weld penetration is decreased. A magnetic field decreases the reinforcement height of weld.
